Lightsabers & Pens
24/10/2025 · Middleton Grange School
MGS graduating students made a real splash at their end of year farewell event. First up we put together a "Signing Off" video which all of Year 13 (about 150 students) participated in. Everyone took turns signing my lens and I had a team of 7-8 students managing the system, cleaning the glass panels and we managed to shoot the whole thing in about 30 minutes. It came together in a lovely way and is such a cool memory for this cohort to hold onto.
The real crowd pleaser though was a surprise lightsaber fight between students and staff. This was a very fun project to support, one that went off light a house on fire for the audience of 600. Lightsaber VFX is no small feat, especially when you have 5 of them in a shot. It took about 6-7 hours to do all the rotoscoping, but the results were totally worth it!

VMC 2025 Campaign
22/10/2025 · Villa Maria College
It was an absolute JOY to support Villa Maria College with a fresh look for their website and some campaign content to promote their wonderful community!
Beyond how impressed I was with their tree growing inside a building, this school really has everything you could ask for. Their property is stunning and the kids were a delight to work with. We produced a website banner, international college promotion and general promotion. I look forward to supporting VMC in the future!
IN THE GRANGE - An "In The Heights" Parody!
15/10/2025 · Middleton Grange School
A special one to share with you today.
A year ago, hot off the heels of the success of their musical mash-up performance, the students of Middleton came to me with an idea they wanted to make for the next big video. It was a pretty ambitious one, and I told them if they can write it, I'll back them to make it happen.
So they wrote it, and it was pretty good!
They then rallied 80 of their peers together to record and shoot their script and they gave up their weekends and holidays to get it all done. It premiered last night with a live performance element too, which we put into the final product today and released online.
The community of The Grange Theatre is a strong one, with 4000 views on instagram in the first couple of hours, and plenty of comments praising the kids for their immense work ethic and talent.
It's a true honour to be the one behind the camera (or in this case, in front of it a little bit too), I know how much these videos mean to the kids, and the lasting impact they have on the community.

Shobi & Karna Family Photos
21/09/2025
Spring is upon us! And family photo season is here too. This shoot with Shobi & Karna and their adorable tamariki was an absolute joy. Nothing beats an opportunity to get giggles out of kids and capture the moment!

Flat Meeting
17/09/2025
While Joel & Rachel may not have been at the helm this year - rip focus lives on! With James Tempero taking on the challenge of directing, shooting, editing and mixing all by himself (with the help of his favourite boys that is)
Flat Meeting is the 10th contribution from rip focus to the film competition and this year they made it to regional finals, won best use of miniature and got nominated for best script!

48Hours 2025 - Ōtautahi Regional Managers
16/09/2025
While we were sad to not compete ourselves in the competition this year, the trade off was a pretty great deal! We've jumped to the other side of the competition and are now the Ōtautahi Regional Managers!
A lot of work goes into the festival behind the scenes and it was an absolute honour to be welcomed in this year.
We got to do a lot of awesome things! Including...
- Promoting the competition around the city and in schools
- Create an advertising video to share across the country (Shoutout to Jem for helping us shoot that)
- Run a schools training workshop for school teams
- Run a Q&A panel for veterans to share their tips and tricks
- Host a live launch of the competition at The Grange
- Watch and review all 90 entries in Christchurch.
- Manage and organise heats
- Support judges and announce the regional finalists over live stream
- Spoke with press and media to promote the competition and finals night
- Organise the Regional Final hosted at Hoyts EntX
- Support the afterparty fake awards with some extra surprises thrown in aswell
- Travel to Wellington for the Grand Finals and hand out certificates to some of the winners
Weaving in and out of all these opportunities was design work, event management, and collaborating with other awesome creative people across the country.
It was by far the highlight of the year, and we can't wait to return in 2026 and do it all again!

HHS Values Campaign 2025
29/08/2025 · Hillmorton High School
Hillmorton brought me on board this year to support their desire to increase understanding and pride in their school culture. The school has four foundational values: Tūrangawaewae, Whanaungatanga, Mana & Ako.
We chose to create a series of short videos asking the students what their understanding is of these values. The goal was to set a tone of 'this is where we are at' so that the content felt relatable. This meant including answers like 'I'm not actually sure!' which was a really fun thing to be able to recognise.
The hope is this series will be a great resource to ignite conversation, encourage learning and continue to help the school develop a sense of pride and community. It was great to be able to support them and I look forward to future projects with HHS!

48Hours 2025 - Ōtautahi Weekend Highlights
17/08/2025
As part of our Ōtautahi Regional Management Role we got to visit many competing teams across the city and capture behind the scenes of their films!
It was an absolute delight to visit so many creative people and get a glimpse of the incredible work they were doing to bring their films to life. We drove about 300kms over two days!
This highlights reel was played on finals night at the EntX theatre and it was a great addition to the evening. Super thankful to Ruth and Ness for their support of us adding this little project into the mix of the bigger responsibility.

He Māhuri Tōtara
25/07/2025 · A Rocha Aotearoa
A double up campaign to encourage youth and young adults to come along to He Māhuri Tōtara - a discipleship experience that goes hand in hand with caring for nature!
Good fun shooting this one, we did a serious and a not so serious take for different audiences. James is an excellent presenter and makes shoot like this an absolute breeze.

The Good News Project 2025
23/06/2025 · A Rocha Aotearoa
As part of the 40 Hour Challenge, 60 young people from youth groups across Ōtautahi Christchurch came together on June 14 to plant over 700 native trees at the Southshore Spit Reserve.
It was a STUNNING day out and a beautiful scene of community. Nature is one of my favourite things to shoot because it needs no fix ups, it's perfect as it is.
Shoutout to James Beck for the work he does to bring these events to life and for bringing me on board to capture this awesome mahi!

Mary Poppins
16/06/2025
Ladies and gents I present to you one of the biggest projects of the year! An outstanding show put on by incredible tamariki. The talent onstage was second to none, it was one of the best things to ever find its way to the Grange Theatre stage.
We had huge contributions this year that we were super proud of, including but not limited to...
- Creating a behind the scenes documentary (available below)
- Recording and archiving the full 2.5 hour show for the community, editing both Cast A and Cast B
- VFX of Mary flying on the LED screen along with other wicked backgrounds and visuals for showstopped like "Supercal"
- Audience brochures designed in the shape of kites
- Choreography support for the lead cast
- Cake design for the closing night celebrations
It was a massive achivement, one we were so stoked to be a part of and one that will live on to be a historic moment in our creative endeavours and those of the kids.
A big shoutout to Michael McCormack & Rhian Horn for your incredible work bringing this show to life!

MGS Formal 2025
06/06/2025 · Middleton Grange School
Back for another year at the Middleton Grange School formal! Always a blast, always a pleasure. It's funny how even a decade on from my own school formals the vibe of them really haven't changed a bit.
Also shoutout to the horse racing happening next door during the event, that was cool.

Pink Ribbon High Tea
24/05/2025
It was a pleasure to support a Pink Ribbon High Tea to raise funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, stories, connection — and Rachel made a a delicious set of Pink Ribbon Cupcakes!

Outer Wilds: Race To The Eye
14/05/2025
Outer Wilds is one of the best games of all time. I'm a big fan, my family are all big fans, it's great. As part of me looking for ways to stretch creative muscles for nobody but myself, I decided to have a play with a board game idea that was themed to Outer Wilds, an omage of sorts.
V1 was designed in Affinity photo and brought into Tabletop Simulator for the family to test on a sunny aftenroon in May.
V2 was printed and prototyped and also played on a less sunny afternoon in September.

V3 may never happen haha but I enjoyed the experience of designing the game and learned a lot about game mechanics and things you have to think about along the way. Maybe my next game will be something I can actually sell.
Glass Houses \\ Editfest 2025
24/04/2025
It's competition time! I was stoked to have the time and space to create a submission for the Filmsupply Editfest competition.
Competitors pick enter one of three catergories of their choice, I chose to create a title sequence. Using footage from Filmsupply and a soundtrack from Musicbed, you can create anything you can imagine.
I was paralysed by the amount of possibilities there were, but ultimately I knew that I wanted to take this competition as a chance to get back into Blender and create something that hopefully they haven't seen much of before. I embedded all of the footage into pieces of glass, pulling it all together for the show title.

I'm really proud of it, and as this is my first time entering the comp I have no idea what to expect, but I look forward to seeing the results in a few weeks time!

Eastercamp 2025
21/04/2025
Another year surrounded by incredible talent at Spencer park. Rachel also joined us this year and we got ourselves a little camper van, which was very much needed as it poured with rain! But we all survived, we created, we learned and we came away feeling overall very proud of the work.
This year I oversaw highlights content and Rachel and I spent Sunday creating a music video! Which we haven't seen for a few years at EC, so that was fun to put together.

Rating Disneyland Rides
30/03/2025
In todays episode of "making things because I want to make them" - disney rides.
I credit Disney parks for a big chunk of my personality, and felt entitled to create the undisputed list. I love being able to just chuck the camera up, setup a nice light or two and state some cold hard facts every once and a while.

What if everyone got a chair?
28/03/2025
I had this impulsive thought which then manifested into me hyperfixating on this project. What if everyone got a chair? That would be a pretty long line, but how long? Let's find out.
Created in blender and rendered out over 2-3 days. This was quite a big distraction from other stuff I should have been doing, but it was worth it.

Chris & Coutney
21/03/2025
Rounding out our 2025 summer celebrations is Chris & Courtney Wicken. I've known Courtney for a very long time, and to be a part of her special day with her man was something special. Highlights included a very windy mountaintop shoot and Rachel and I were delighted to see a common theme shared between our reception and theirs - Pop figures! How good.

Must Be Productive
23/03/2025
Have you ever woken up and been paralysed by the thoughts of what you have to do that day?
This little short was a fun morning project, another one that's been on my mind for a long time.
Blog functionally prevents shorts from previewing correctly at the moment so click here if keen to watch - it's super short :)
