I've never written a line of code in my life. Also, I made a full video game for my brother.
156 days of development. 250 scripts. Over 3,000 sprites and 1,000 animations. Hundreds of hours talking to ChatGPT, which wrote every line of code. I finished it three hours before the party.
The whole game is Fraser's life. Eight levels, each a moment he'd recognise: our family home, vacations we took, school (where the kids turn into zombies), Disneyland (where his stuffed toy goes King Kong on the castle), a football field full of cows, our favourite NZ beach with Split Apple Rock coming to life. Plus a Mario-Kart-style 3D minigame, a Minecraft level, and a cutscene where he scrolls memes on his phone because that's what Fraser does.
Documenting this project was important to me. AI is only going to get better, faster and smarter. This felt like a slice of time where the potential was clear, but we have no idea what comes next. Will it kill us all? Or will everyone just get to have their own custom video games with the press of a button? Time will tell I suppose! I'm not sure if I'll ever make a game again, but I'm glad that the time I chose to make one it was for this particular purpose.
