"I Remember" Music Video
·Kath Bee
This was my second music video for Kath following the success of E Tu Tangata the previous year.
Creating the video for Kath Bee's "I Remember" was one of the most challenging projects I've done to date. I find the biggest challenges are often all in my head, and this was a BIG one...that was all in my head.
The challenge I faced was this simple question - Where on earth do I start?
The possiblities were endless, but balancing time, technique and style make it tricky to know where to take the first step.
I experimented with 3 or 4 different styles before landing on this crayon effect. The process for discovering how to make this work was a mission on it's own, and you wouldn't believe what saved the day for me - Microsoft Powerpoint.
Powerpoint has a screen recording tool that gives you the ability to remove the cursor! There was no other tool or app that provided this functionality so simply, I was overjoyed to figure it out.
So hit screen record, draw the image, save it and speed it up, add some blending and take out any mistakes. Wash, rinse, repeat and boom, you have a music video!
Well, there was a bit more too it then that. We also had a wonderful shoot day with the tamariki, they were so much fun to work with and the parents were a wonderful help too. We were lucky to use natural sky light for these shots coming through the tall Grange Theatre foyer windows, giving me the perfect lighting to key out the kids in the edit.
Big shoutout to Luke for shooting his scenes in the UK and sending them to me, it was seamless!
