Tempero Creative is a multi-disiplined creative company. We're privellaged to contribute to many different communities and organisations in unique ways. No one week is ever the same for us! We're always looking around the corner for new opportunities and creative endeavours. Our main work is videography, but we will never be put in one box. Joel Tempero
With over a decade of experience in the creative realm, Joel does it all. Standing at 6ft 2, he refuses to be put in any one box. Need a video made? Joel's your guy. Perhaps an animation? Chat with Joel. Maybe a website? A song? Heck, why not a video game? It's worth checking in with Joel.
Rachel Tempero
Taking on the Tempero name is no small feat, and Rachel has done it in style. Marrying into the family in 2022, Rachel brings an attention to detail and careful eye that balances out Joel's spontaneity quite nicely. She's a sharp shooter and an INCREDIBLE baker. No seriously, you NEED to try her food.
James Tempero
After finishing up at UC with a Master of writing in his back pocket, James is writing, blogging and creating digital content for various local companies. He's got a knack for good storytelling, contributing his talent to many short films and organisation blogs. He writes on his personal site some good chuckles, be sure to go have a read.He's also absolutely infatuated with Peanuts Comics.
Fraser Tempero
Fraser is a casual content creator who has contributed to a number of projects, particularlly supporting Joel in editing and shooting for schools and collaborating with rip focus and other 48hours teams.He's now streaming on twitch!

How much do you cost?
All initial discussions and our first meeting will always be free of charge! We want to get to know you and your idea to see if we're a good fit for you. From there, our services are vast and the prices range from minimum wage work to full production level quotes. We have one off prices, multi-project discounts and retainer fees to select from. A rate card for our most common services is available upon request. We are GST registered.
What makes Tempero Creative different from other studios?
Being a family makes the work all the more special, and once you have worked with us, you're a part of the family too! Deep connection with the client, understanding them and their story is always the forefront of our business model and strategic planning. Affordable media solutions are important to us - so we can garuntee we have the best prices in the business without skipping out on quality.
Do you work with clients outside of Christchurch?
Yes — we will work with anyone all across Aotearoa and beyond. Whether it be a remote job, or if you'd like to fly us out to you, we will be there!
You seem to do a lot, but what DON'T you do??
That's a great question! The short answer - SEO, Marketing and Ads. 3D Printing. Copy-writing. Coding and App Dev.
That being said, we often find our creative work crashes into these sorts of areas, so we have heaps of friends and connections on call to give us a hand if we need, or we can refer you onto other fantastic Christchurch talent!
Can you help us shape our idea if we’re not sure what we need yet?
Absolutely. Many clients come to us early — we’re happy to help you develop a concept, script, or strategy before your production begins. If you decide you want to take us on board to bring something to life, that's when we'll start negotiating budgets and costs.
Do you take on urgent or last-minute projects?
We do when we can. Get in touch as soon as possible — we’ll let you know straight away what’s possible based on our current schedule.
Who does what?
Joel is the main contact for Tempero Creative. Every contributer has their own skills and some of them overlap, but it's safe to assume you'll be initially working with Joel and then reffered onto the others if the job requires it eg. we typically get James to take on writing gigs, and trust us when we say you want Rachel to bake you your wedding cake, not Joel.

After a decade of competing, the Temperos have taken on the regional management duties for the Ōtautahi region.
A Few of our Favourites
The Defiance Medley
Coming in at 2nd place for Joel's most favourite project of 2024 is this absolute banger of an experience. From working through the story, to writing and recording the music with the kids, to filming and editing the final thing. Every step of the way there was something special to admire.It's a true blessing to be able to support such talent, and I'm always so greatful for the incredible opportunity I have to empower the students.
Elmer's Ōtautahi Elephant Trail
This year's Wild In Art project was lucky enough to fall into the hands of the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust. This included an afternoon shoot at the Town Hall where all the sponsors and artists came together to celebrate the incredible work they had done.Following that, 30 elephants were installed throughout Christchurch, and Joel spent a day walking the entire city getting shots of as many as he could. He walked 20,000 steps.
Project Link
Joel's first ever video game - the highlight of 2024! A secret project for his brother's 21st birthday, with zero experience prior.This project pulled together storytelling, design, music, video editing and Unity game engine to create an absolute masterpiece.
Eastercamp
Year after year we return to Eastercamp with joy in our hearts, ready to serve and bring entertainment and fun to the 3000 youth staying onsite for 5 days.The work ranges from highlights content, on the spot interviews, shoutouts and in 2025 Rachel and Joel's special project was a music video.
Crab Mentality
Ever wondered what happens when you put crabs in a bucket?This is one of many explainer videos Joel has produced for companies and organisations wanting to communicate their message in a unique way.
"I Can Do It"
This was a special one! I was incredibly lucky to support Suzy and Kath with their incredible new song, one all about perserverance, resilience and giving things your all.We spent a day at Halswell Quarry with a group of 15 keen beans. We took on rain, dead batteries and a big ol' walk up to the very top.They say never work with kids, but when you know kids as great as the ones we had, I think we can make the exception! Big thank you to all the parents who supported their tamariki on the day.
Endgame Parody
Recreating the credits sequence of Avengers: Endgame would be no small feat, but as it turned out, it wasn't quite as complicated as I thought. All it took was a few emails back and forth and a lot of studying of the movements in the sequence.Hitfilm may not be the first choice for VFX artists, but it has been my go to ever since I was very young, and it was the perfect software to get this video looking just right. From the animations, to the gleaming lights going across the space, to compositing and lighting the people.
The Christmas Grotto
As a child my parents would take me to a place that I always thought was absolute magic - The Christmas Grotto. First launched in 2001 at Southwest Baptist Church, thanks to the creative minds of Edward Warrington and Linda Hills.
It was an absolute joy to be able to contribute to the magic, promoting the 2023 event.
I Could Fly
This was Joel's 10th year entering 48hours competitions. We landed musical for a second time, which is both exciting and exhausting. We had an awesome time putting this together (despite the cold, can you tell we were freezing?)Beyond the film, we had an incredible time connecting with such talented creatives across the city this year. We're always grateful for the opportunities 48hours gives us to meet new people, explore new ideas and try out new things.

Film Club NZ
One session a week, usually after school, a film club will come together to work on a project of their choosing, and upskill in many areas of film making. This course brings teams together to train up their film making craft, tell stories using a simple set of tools, and train for competitions like the 48hours film festival.
Animation Club
